The Right to Life of Michigan Political Action Committee has endorsed Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox for governor in the Aug. 3 Republican primary citing Cox's defense of Michigan's ban on partial birth abortion before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Cox is one of five Republicans seeking the GOP nomination for governor along with Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder, U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra and state Sen. Tom George. Democrats seeking the nomination are Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and Michigan House Speaker Andy Dillon of Livonia.
Snyder called the endorsement disappointing: "The decision by Right to Life to endorse just one candidate out of several qualifying candidates in a pro-life field is disappointing. I am firmly pro-life, but I made the decision early on in this campaign to run a campaign independent of special interests and political action committees. This reaffirms that I made the right decision," Snyder said.
