Tea party hosts debate for 9th congressional district candidates

The Republicans who want to unseat U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, in the fall are scheduled to debate tonight in advance of the Aug. 3 primary.

Anna Janek, Rocky Raczkowski and Paul Welday have indicated they’ll join the 7 p.m. debate at the Board of Commissioners Auditorium, 1200 N. Telegraph in Pontiac. Richard D. Kuhn hasn’t indicated whether he’ll participate, says the group Let Freedom Reign, one of the even organizers.
The four are vying for the nomination to run against Peters, a first-term congressman, in the November election.
The debate will be moderated by DJ Jim Johnson. It’s also hosted by the White Lake Tea Party Group and the North Oakland Republican Club.
The seat now held by Peters of Bloomfield Township is the only congressional seat entirely within Oakland County borders and represents more than a third of its 61 communities: Pontiac, Lake Angelus, Keego Harbor, Sylvan Lake, Orchard Lake, Farmington, Farmington Hills, Franklin, Bingham Farms, Beverly Hills, Birmingham, Berkley, Royal Oak, Clawson, Troy, Bloomfield Hills, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Auburn Hills, West Bloomfield Township, Oakland Township, most of Waterford Township and part of Orion Township.
