Former Michigan Gov. John Engler is making appearances at fundraisers in the state — and in Oakland County — on behalf of Republican candidates running for statewide offices.
Engler was in Oakland County Tuesday night to raise money for Republican secretary of state candidate Ruth Johnson, the Oakland County clerk, and in Bloomfield Hills Wednesday afternoon for a fundraiser for GOP attorney general candidate Bill Schuette.
"John is smart and experienced and really wants to make sure the entire Republican team gets elected," Schuette said Wednesday.
Schuette, from Midland, faces Democrat David Leyton of Genesee County in the attorney general's race.
Johnson is running against Democrat Joselyn Benson in the secretary of state race.
Engler, 62, was elected Michigan governor in 1990 and served three four-year terms.
Also on Wednesday, Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Snyder met in Detroit with another former Michigan governor.
He had lunch with former Republican Gov. Bill Milliken in Detroit to talk about plans to revitalize Michigan's central cities.
Snyder faces Democrat and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero in the Nov. 2 election.
Milliken, 88, was a four-time Michigan governor from 1969 through 1983.
