Michigan candidates, supporters crisscross state in runup to Nov. 2 election

  Candidates and supporters this weekend are blanketing the state to motiviate their voters in advance of Tuesday's election.

  Democrats meet in Royal Monday at 8:15 a.m. at Five15, 515 S. Washington in Royal Oak.
  Appearing are Jocelyn Benson, candidate for secretary of state, U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, term-limited state Rep. Marie Donigan, D-Royal Oak, Oakland County Commissioner Dave Woodward, D-Royal Oak, Oakland County Commissioner Tim Greimel, D-Auburn Hills, state House candidate Jim Townsend of Royal Oak, state Senate candidate Aaron Bailey, and Oakland County Democratic Party board members.
  Oakland County Democrats are also seekintg volunteers to help with phone banking in Pontiac, Rochester, Farmington Hills, Waterford and Royal Oak for shifts at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Interested volunteers can call 248-629-9808.
 Benson faces Republican Ruth Johnson, Peters is running against Republican Rocky Raczkowski, Woodward's opponent is Republican Mark Ellis, Greimel's opponent is Republican Bob Kittle, Townsend faces Republican Ken Rosen, and Bailey seeks to unseat state Sen. John Pappageorge of Troy.
  On election night, Peters plans to hold a reception at The Met, 5500 Crooks Road in Troy. Democrats will also be gathering at the MGM Grand in Detroit.
  Meanwhile, 9th Congressional District Republicans plan a "Countdown to Victory '10: Fight To The Finish rally Monday night in Troy.
  The rally is from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. at BACC Michigan, 1451 E. Big Beaver Road in Troy.
  It features Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, Raczkowski, Johnson and state and county GOP nominees.
